Full Member Applications

There are two new pending applications for full membership (to the “B” List) in the club.  Further to Article 2.2 d) and e) of the Club By-laws, rules and Regulations notice of an application is to be made on this website and the Clubhouse Bulletin Board for a minimum of 30 days.  Members may communicate to the membership committee (membership@georgianyachtclub.com) or the Board any relevant information a Member may possess regarding the applicants.  Please note that it is possible the Board could meet on Launch day, Saturday, May 6th to consider these applications.  Accordingly, information should be communicated to the membership committee or the Board by May 6th.

Ron Downie of Owen Sound (recently moved from the Sarnia area), and sponsored by Paul Matthies and Tom England, was approved as an Associate member at the April 3, 2017 Board meeting.  Ron has been sailing for 8 years and has a Catalina 32 sailboat.

Josh Baker of Georgian Bluffs, and sponsored by Jeff Schnarr and Cam Merrill, was approved as an Associate member at the April 3, 2017 Board meeting.  Josh has been boating for almost a quarter century and has 20′ power boat that he hopes to upgrade.

Sad News – Past Member Dougal Cameron

CAMERON, Dougal – Peacefully at the Village of Glendale Crossing on Saturday, March 11, 2017, Dougal Walter Cameron of London in his 68th year. Beloved husband of Ann Miles Cameron. Loving father of Melanie Cameron (Tomas Guidolin), Michelle Cameron (Geoff Kitching). Dear step-father of Vicki Miles, Heather Orr, Phil Miles and families. Brother of James and Sue Cameron, Charlie and Diane Cameron, Jeanie and Rob Cameron-Staples, and Robert Cameron. Also remembered by several nieces and nephews. Dougal was a member of Oakridge Presbyterian Church and an Elder at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Owen Sound. He was a man of many trades but his heart was always on the water aboard his sailboat “Origo”. Music was also an integral part of his life, as a man who dearly loved to sing and dance. The funeral service will be conducted at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond, on Wednesday, March 15 at 2 pm. Visitation preceding the service on Wednesday from 1-2 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.

VISITATION: Visitation at Harris Funeral Home preceding the service on Wednesday from 1-2 pm.

SERVICE: The funeral service will be conducted at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond, on Wednesday, March 15 at 2 pm.

Thomas Moore of Kemble, and sponsored by Creighton Taylor and Chris Haslam, was approved as an Associate member at the February 6, 2017 Board meeting.  Thomas has a Regal 24′ power boat.

Joe Ostrander of Owen Sound, and sponsored by Norm Menary and Travis Low, was approved as an Associate member at the February 6, 2017 Board meeting.  Joe has a Regal Commodore 322 power boat.

In Memory of James Arthur Burton Brophey

In Memory of James Arthur Burton Brophey, February 3, 1954 – September 7, 2016

Brophey, James Arthur Burton, in his 63rd year, peacefully at home on September 7, 2016. Loving husband of Karen (nee Fisher) Brophey, devoted father of Patrick of Milton, Erin of Toronto and Evan (Danielle) of Barrie. Loving brother of Vicki Brophey (Frank Turner), Janice and husband Tim Lowes. Will be deeply missed by sister-in-law Linda Holm (Richard) of Woodstock and brother-in-law Eric Fisher (Janice) of Ayton, as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents C.E. “Jim” and Joan Brophey. Jim was a financial advisor with CIBC Wood Gundy, Waterloo, Ontario for many years. Avid supporter of many local and national organizations. A private service will be held at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, Kitchener, Ontario with cremation to follow. Final resting at Lauderbach Cemetery, Normandy Township. In lieu of flowers, donations to Canadian Cancer Society or Plan International (www.plancanada.ca) would be greatly appreciated.

“Jim was a true gentleman. Always there to help, to advise but only if asked. He always showed genuine interest in whatever you were doing. He loved his boat, the Yacht Club and understood the value of tradition. Jim is a great friend who we will miss. Please know our thoughts are with Karen, and “all” the family.
