Enhancements and Bug Fixes

Rainy day projects.

  • The member detail popup now lists all of the committees a member serves on.
  • The member detail popup was not showing “Year Became Associate” or “Year Dock Assigned” for those members where this data has been entered.
  • The boat detail was marking any boat without an image as “Secondary Boat.”

Fleet List

I see members repeatedly searching the fleet list by dock. The search field was designed to only take a boat name or partial boat name. (The prompt was added to make that clear.) But it seems there must be a need, so I spent an hour or two implementing search by dock.

You will see a new drop down to specify BOAT NAME or DOCK.
You can enter just ‘R’ to see all the boats in that basin. Or the exact dock number. Remember that on the database docks numbered 0 through 9 have a leading zero. That’s so they sort correctly.
e.g. Y2 will find all the docks Y20-Y29. Y02 will find only that one dock.

You can also use the Dock Mapping Tool to find a boat and member if you know the boat’s location in the basin.

THE OWEN SOUND FAMILY PHYSICIAN RECRUITING TEAM. CANCELLED.

This event has unfortunately been cancelled due to the predicted bad weather on Saturday.

On Saturday July 15 a few of our members will be taking 8-10 medical residents for a sail to showcase our beautiful area.

This is an opportunity for GYC to support healthcare in Grey Bruce and the purpose is to attract new physicians to our area. We have a few members who do not have a family physician and I know are in full support of this initiative.

The sailors plan to return to the club at around 16:30 and will be entertaining their guests in the picnic shelter. So this is a heads up that the shelter and the BBQs will be in use at this time.

Directory / Member Search

The Member search in the directory pages was only designed to find members by member name. It was not completely dumb: if you searched for “John” it would find Elton John, John Lennon or Boris Johnson.

But we saw members searching for members by boat name. Presumably they knew a boat name but not who owned her.

The logic will now search for either.

We also saw a member desperately searching for a boat by its dock. To implement this would be a bit more work. Is it something you need? Remember, if you know approximately where a dock is in the basins, you can use the dock mapping tool. Hover over the dock, left click. See here.

July 2022 / North Chanel

Cruising the North Chanel in a chartered Hunter 46′.

Experimenting with a dedicated “Trip Reports” category and separating posts from other categories.
