In light of some members preferring to break down their cradles after their boat has launched, we are noting that you are permitted to break your cradle down after your boat has launched, or later in the day, but to PLEASE BE MINDFUL of how many people are around you.
Maintain a safe physical distance, wear your masks, use your common sense. If there are other people in your area, consider coming back later. We are doing our best to limit the number of people on the property at once and are trying to adhere to public health guidelines. Please do your part.
There are crews organized for each crane in the morning as well as the afternoon. The schedule is being finalized and will be e-mail to all members shortly. This keeps our numbers down on the property, keeps everyone safer and keeps us within the rules at this unprecedented time. Thank-you for understanding. The Board is trying to do its best.
Included with this email is a list with your launch time, your check in gate and cell # for the gate crew.
Arrive at least 30-45 minutes ahead of your launch time. (Those at 8am should arrive 07:40am).
Remember that launch can get ahead of schedule, or behind schedule, so please be patient and ready to go when you’re called in. If you are not able to attend the launch of your boat, you must notify the Launch & Haul out Director Mike Forcier at mike@greybrucelaw.ca or his office at 519-372-0722 no later than Friday June 4th 2021. If any questions or concerns, contact Mike. If there is a problem you can also reach Mike at 519-372-5960.
Fenders, lines, and sling pads must be in place by Friday evening. You must have a bow and a stern line at least 30’ long. Please lead them down so they are accessible from the ground.
Our major contact from the gate crew to you will be your cell phone and preferably by text, otherwise a cell call. Please make sure your cell phone is up to date on the attached list of captains and boats. Please call Becky 519-373-6101 by Thursday at the latest with correct cell phone so the list can be updated for the gate crews. If you have no cell phone, then tell us that too.
There will be one person working each gate.
Please park outside the property, as near your assigned gate as possible. When you arrive at the vicinity of the club property, notify the gate crew by text or cell phone call (or walk up to speak to them at the gate) . You will be directed by the gate crew to drive into the club just prior to your launch time. Please remain in your car and wait it out folks. (No family/friends this year).
The gate crew will be in touch with the crane crew with walkie talkies to coordinate boat captains in time for their launch.
You will be offered hand sanitizer at the gate entrances. We require members to wear a mask to protect your selves and your fellow club members and the crane crew. There will be garbage available for safe disposal of gloves or face masks should you choose to wear them. Please bring your own mask if possible.
Once your boat is launched, each boat captain will check their boat to insure a dry bilge and lines are secured, and moves vessel as necessary. The Captain then leaves the property and can return late in the day or the next day.
Checks will be performed at the end of the day to ensure boats are safe and secured.
Emergency sump pump will be up in the upper doorway of the clubhouse in case of emergency.
Cradle moving will take place Saturday June 6th 9:00am Names are to be painted on all cradles. No ladders to be left attached to cradles.
Reminder to all members preparing their boats:
APPENDIX “E” ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY
Removal of bottom paints and structural component materials removed by sanding, grinding, or blasting methods are to be contained in a sealed cover of the given work area during the process as no dust is allowed in the air or on the ground. Collect all removed materials and place in sealed plastic bags for land fill disposal. Members who wish to remove material by blasting will be required to seek Board of Directors approval in writing including details of job plan, timing and assurance of containment.
When power washing bottom paints collect any loose paint flake materials which were removed during washing and place in sealed plastic bags for landfill disposal.
Reminder: Appendix D of Launch and Haul out. Don’t paint the hull the day of lift to avoid getting paint on others boats or the crane slings.
As of May 22: **Recreational boating is permitted but only members of a household can gather on a boat. If members are found in violation, then fines to captains and the club, as well as closure of the club, could jeopardize our operations.
We all want to keep boating this summer, so let’s all do our part.
Washrooms, first aid and defibrillator are all available upstairs in the clubhouse. Thank you for continuing to sign your name on the sheet to facilitate any necessary contact tracing.
On June 5th, Launch day, too many people on the property could be an issue. Please, let’s keep it to a minimum.
Take care of your boats, keep your distance and when you get out there, enjoy your time out on the water!
With the extension of the Stay-at-Home order and continuing restrictions, we have had to reschedule launch. The new launch date is Saturday June 5th, starting at 8am.
This is again dependent on the restrictions being lifted by that time.
We will be needing volunteers for the new launch date and cradle moving, so if you can help out please contact Mike Forcier.
If you are NOT able to attend to launch your boat, you must tell the launch committee who will be launching your boat for you.
In the hopeful anticipation of being able to launch on Friday, May 21st, we are looking for volunteers.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – We need dedicated work crews for launch day, in the same way crews were run last launch and haul out. We need 4 crews of 7-8 people to work 2 shifts. The first shift runs 7:45am-11:30am. The second shift runs 11:30am-end of launch.
Gate volunteers are also needed to register each boat owner 20-30 minutes prior to their boat being launched. Sling stickers will also be available at the gates.
NOTE! If you are NOT able to attend to launch your boat, please contact Mike Forcier You must designate a Full Member to be responsible for launching your boat on your behalf. If you do not have someone available to take your place please contact Mike.
Cradle moving will take place Saturday May 22nd starting at 9am.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – cradle captain(s) to coordinate with Larry McCartney to safely manage cradle moving, and 4-5 people per work crew, with additional people needed to hook up cradles.
If YOU can help, please contact Mike Forcier – 519-372-0722 or mike@greybrucelaw.ca
A big thank you to all of you who responded to the recent GYC security survey. We had a very high response rate of 59%. Thanks to each of you for your comments and time given to completing the survey.
Now we have the results, we are reviewing the many recommendations and concerns you have expressed, and the committees are gathering the information needed for the next phase of planning.
While we explore the options, we are continuing with the interim security measures already in place, and are moving forward with improvement which are immediately available. Our current cameras will remain in place, the security patrols will continue, and we are making improvements to the fencing perimeter.
As we go forward into the upcoming boating season please bear in mind the ongoing security issues within our community. Make sure any valuables you choose to bring to the property are secured, and be mindful of your fellow boaters if bringing guests to the club.
We appreciate that our members recognize that this is a challenging situation, in an already challenging time.
Stay safe, stay kind, and look out for one another,
